Winter RV Tips

Tips to help you keep warm for your RV winter living.

Grabbing a heated throw is one of the quickest ways to stay warm. We know—sounds simple, right? It is! Run to your favorite store and grab one for those extra cold evenings in front of the television. (We use it on the bed before we retire for the evening. It warms the bed enough that we aren’t climbing into chilly sheets.)

Get your hands on a roll of Refletix or any reflective insulation and use it on your windows to help keep the heat from escaping.

Every RVer nightmare: freezing pipes! You can try using pool noodles that you put a slit in or spend a few more dollars and purchase already slitted pipe insulation. Also, if your RV furnace is ducted into the underbelly, you should make sure you’re running the furnace in sub-freezing temps to help keep the pipes from freezing.

The trusty space heater can help keep the chill out of the room. We recommend plugging directly into a wall outlet and avoiding using extension cords or strip outlets. We also suggest that you never leave the space heater unattended while away.

If you are hooked up to city water, think about unhooking your hose and replacing it with an RV-heated hose. We always rely on using our filled freshwater tank and heated holding tanks in freezing temperatures.

It is nice to have an RV fireplace to cozy up to in the winter months. However, you want to be sure your thermostat is still kicking on, or your underbelly may not get heated. You can also consider putting a space heater in your bay areas for heat during those colder months.

If you are a permanent parked RVer, you may consider skirting your RV around the perimeter, which can help minimize cold air entering places that lead to the interior.

Stay warm out there!

We use the Dreo space heater for our bedroom. It is quiet and keeps the chill out of the bedroom and bathroom! (We are an Amazon affiliate and may earn a commission when you click the link.)
