RVers love exploring different areas while making memories, but there is also the “not so pretty” part of RVing. Emptying the RV tanks is not glamorous, but it is a necessity.
Typically, RVs come with several tanks that are located underneath the RV. Those include:
*The Fresh Water Tank holds the water to use in our sinks, showers, and toilets.
*The Grey Tank collects wastewater from the sink and shower drains.
*Black Tanks hold the wastewater from the toilet.
Keeping the above systems in working order is essential if you don’t want future problems.
Most RVs have an onboard monitoring system that shows the tank levels. However, we suggest you not rely solely on this system because it can often read inaccurately. Debris, such as toilet paper, grease, and food particles, can cause an issue with the tank’s sensors, giving you false readings that can cause problems. The sensors may read “full” when the tank isn’t, especially as time passes.
What can you do if you suspect your tank sensors are reading incorrectly? You can try flushing and dumping your black tank to see if your system reads “empty.” If, after several tank flushings, the monitoring system continues to misread the tank level, you may need to replace the sensors or install exterior tank sensors.
